Guard your faith through global trials
“It is a book of lessons, it is a book of morals, and it is our shield and our light.”
Muslims can preserve their faith amid global trials by guarding prayer, engaging the Quran, choosing righteous company, speaking wisely against injustice, making dua, and teaching the next generation.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Frames faith as difficult to maintain amid global trials and introduces Bilal’s perseverance.
- Identifies normalized immorality, silence toward oppression, and spiritual neglect as major contemporary fitnas.
- Presents prayer, Quran, righteous companionship, wise truth-speaking, and dua as safeguards for iman.
- Encourages Muslims to embrace being distinct and remain proud of their Islamic identity.
- Calls listeners to return to the Quran, restore timely prayer, advocate against oppression, and educate their children.
- Closes with prayers for steadfastness and Quranic recitation.
In the khateeb's words
“they could take my body and they could take my life but they could not take my Islam from me”
“it is a book of lessons it is a book of morals and it is our shield and our light”
“surround yourself with those who remind you of Allah izza wa jal remind you to do good remind you to do sunnah”
For the dinner table
This khutbah reminded us that holding on to our faith can be difficult, and that comfort, popularity, and busy lives can test us too. The khateeb encouraged us to protect our prayers and read a little Quran every day, taking time to understand it and put its lessons into practice. He also reminded us to choose friends who encourage goodness and to ask Allah to keep our hearts firm in faith. He urged us to care about people facing oppression, speak with wisdom, and support them through action and dua. At home, we can begin today by learning together, helping each other pray on time, and making space to talk with our children about Islam and the world around them.
- How could you encourage a friend to do something good?
- What could our family do to help people who are suffering and remember them in our duas?
