Allah knows the intention behind every deed

For the dinner table

Today's khutbah was about intention, the hidden reason in our hearts behind everything we do. People can only see our actions, but Allah knows why we really did them, like whether we gave charity out of kindness or to look good. The khateeb said this should comfort us, because Allah sees every quiet good deed, every hard act of forgiveness, and even the good things we meant to do but couldn't. He reminded us that our conscience, the uneasy feeling inside when something is wrong, is a gift that helps us choose well every day, even when nobody is watching. And when we make mistakes, we should never lose hope, because the door of tawbah, turning back to Allah, stays open until our last breath.

  1. What is one good thing you did this week that maybe only Allah noticed?
  2. Have you ever had that 'uneasy feeling' inside telling you something was wrong? What did you do?
  3. If you took a wrong turn on a road, what would you do, and how is that like saying sorry to Allah?
