Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah taught that taqwa means staying aware of Allah, obeying Him, avoiding sin, and remembering that we will return to Him. Because Allah sees what is public and private, we should pause before acting, control our desires and anger, protect our tongues, pray sincerely, and treat people honestly and kindly. Taqwa belongs in our homes, workplaces, relationships, and financial dealings, so we should earn lawfully, keep promises, return what we owe, and respect others’ rights. When we make mistakes, we should repent, follow a bad deed with a good one, and keep trying to improve.

  1. What is one private choice where remembering Allah could help you do the right thing?
  2. How can our family practice controlling anger before speaking?
  3. Which promise or responsibility can we honor more carefully this week?
