Guard Allah’s boundaries every day
“Safeguard the prayers especially the middle prayer.”
The khutbah teaches that living within Allah’s boundaries by fulfilling obligations, avoiding prohibitions and doubtful matters, and guarding prayer, promises, body, and tongue brings Allah’s protection and must continue every day.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Introduces Ibn Abbas’s hadith: safeguard Allah’s boundaries and He will safeguard you.
- Defines Allah’s boundaries as obligations, prohibitions, and doubtful matters to avoid.
- Applies the principle to prayer, promises and trusts, and guarding the head, stomach, and tongue.
- Explains Allah’s protection over faith, family, wealth, and hardship, alongside warnings about abandoning remembrance.
- Urges listeners to carry Dhul Hijjah’s spiritual momentum into daily life.
In the khateeb's words
“Islam is not a religion that remains on our tongues to be a Muslim is not just to say I am a Muslim and that's it”
“the first thing we will be asked about on the day of judgment when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala He says to us safeguard the prayers especially the middle prayer”
“the heaviest heaviest part of protecting what is on the head and everything on it is protecting the tongue”
For the dinner table
The khateeb focused on a short teaching of the Prophet: safeguard Allah’s boundaries, and He will safeguard you. He reminded us that being Muslim means living our faith through our actions, including guarding our prayers, keeping promises, and honoring what others entrust to us. He also spoke about caring for what we watch, hear, and consume, and especially about protecting our tongues from lies and backbiting. He encouraged us to trust Allah’s care in hardship and explained that His protection includes our faith, families, and affairs. As we move beyond the blessed days of Dhul Hijjah, we can keep practicing the good habits we built and help one another remain consistent.
- How could our family help each other make time for prayer every day?
- What kind words could you say when someone around you starts talking badly about another person?
- What good habit from Dhul Hijjah would you like us to keep practicing together?
