Patience & trialsFrom the masjid's own video, Apr 11, 2026.
Hardship is a test, not proof of sin
“No one can give that solution except Allah.”
In one sentence
Hardship is a divinely ordained test, and believers should respond with patience, continual sincere dua, repentance, and trust that Allah alone provides relief.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Explains that believers are tested through fear, hunger, illness, financial loss, death, and other forms of hardship.
- Urges patience and rejects the assumption that suffering proves someone is sinful, noting that prophets faced the greatest tests.
- Teaches that Allah alone answers the desperate and provides solutions, while believers should still use worldly means.
- Encourages continual dua, highlighting istighfar, Friday's special hour, late-night prayer, the time between adhan and iqamah, and sujood.
- Instructs young people to honor their parents and seek their dua, illustrated through the khateeb's mother's story.
- Closes with communal supplications and reminders to remain orderly after prayer.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“we should always be making dua brothers and sisters continuously especially if you are away from harms and you have not been tested”
“respect your parents and be dutiful to them and wallahi their du'a is accepted brothers and sisters”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
Everyone goes through tests, including fear, illness, loss, hunger, and grief. The sermon reminds us that hardship does not mean Allah has abandoned us, because even the prophets were tested deeply. We should be patient, turn to Allah in sincere dua, ask forgiveness, and remember that He is near. We should make dua not only when life is difficult, but also when life is going well. We should also honor our parents, serve them, and value their prayers.
- What is one difficulty where patience and dua could help us?
- When could we make dua together this week?
- What is one kind thing we can do for our parents?
