Answer Allah before reacting to hardship
“You are not responding to the people that are around you before you are responding to Allah Azza wa Jal Himself.”
Muslims should respond to hardship by answering Allah and His Messenger, rejecting defeatism and worldly corruption, and returning to the Qur'an through steadfast obedience and memorization.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Introduces answering Allah and the Prophet before reacting to people or circumstances.
- Applies that principle to anger, divorce, marriage, and seeking counsel before irreversible decisions.
- Reframes Gaza and communal hardship: defeat is disobedience and pessimism, not suffering or loss.
- Uses Uhud and reliance on Allah to teach steadfastness during apparent defeat.
- Diagnoses al-wahan as love of worldly life and hatred of death, expressed through betrayal, abuse, cheating, and gossip.
- Calls listeners to memorize the Qur'an, improve tajweed, and let revelation shape personal and communal renewal.
- Closes with prayers for Qur'an-centered faith, oppressed Muslims, Gaza, and victory.
In the khateeb's words
“Whenever you are responding to something that is happening in life you are not responding to the people that are around you before you are responding to Allah Azza wa Jal Himself”
“we are victorious wallahi I learned my deen from the mothers of Ghazza the greatest victory is there are people converting to Islam because of Ghazza”
“the true jihad is in memorization of Qur'an and that is where the revolution begins”
For the dinner table
The sermon teaches us to look first to Allah and the Prophet's guidance when life becomes painful or confusing. When anger comes, slow down, seek wise counsel, and do not make decisions that damage people or families. Speaking about Gaza, the imam urges believers not to call the ummah a failure; true failure is disobeying Allah, while faith, dignity, and steadfastness are forms of success. He ends by asking listeners to return to the Qur'an through memorization, tajweed, and daily practice, so its words shape how they live.
- When you feel angry, what could help you pause before speaking or acting?
- What does it mean to be hopeful and honest when people are suffering?
- Which short Qur'an passage or surah would you like to begin memorizing?
