Love Allah by following His guidance
“You will be with those whom you love.”
Love for Allah and His Messenger must be demonstrated through following their guidance, sincere repentance, hope in intercession, and a life oriented toward the Hereafter.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The Qur'anic ayah connects love of Allah with following the Messenger.
- Love for the Prophet is presented as essential to faith, illustrated by Uhud and Bilal's final days.
- Listeners are urged to prioritize Allah and His Messenger to find peace.
- The Day of Judgment intercession narrative emphasizes the Prophet's concern for sinful believers.
- Believers should balance hope and fear, seek sincere forgiveness, review their mistakes, and avoid backbiting.
- The khutbah closes by urging regular mosque attendance and thoughtful engagement with Qur'an and prophetic teaching.
In the khateeb's words
“Anta ma'a man ahbabta, you will be with those whom you love.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that loving Allah and His Messenger should shape how we live and whose example we follow. The khateeb shared stories of the companions’ deep love for the Prophet, while recognizing that love for family and sadness at losing someone are real. He also spoke about the Prophet’s care for his community and his choice of intercession on the Day of Judgment. We were encouraged to ask Allah sincerely for forgiveness and work to leave our mistakes behind. Together, we can keep hope in Allah’s mercy, take responsibility for our choices, and make time to understand what we learn and visit the mosque.
- When you make a mistake, what helps you try a different choice next time?
- What is one thing from today’s khutbah you would like our family to put into practice?
