Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Jul 18, 2026.

Taqwa unlocks Allah's guidance

“Having Taqwa is worshipping Allah as if He sees you.”

The khateeb, at 7:22

In one sentence

Taqwa is the necessary key that unlocks Allah's guidance, provision, and ultimate arrival at Jannah in a world no one has traveled before.

The khutbah in 8 steps

  1. Opening praises and a GPS metaphor: guidance must be both possessed and followed to reach the destination
  2. The Quran is guidance only for people of taqwa, not an automatic gift to every reader
  3. Defining taqwa as God-conscious worship, leaving haram, and fear of Allah rooted in love and respect
  4. Taqwa brings furqan and divine provision, making right and wrong clear in daily decisions
  5. The thorn-path analogy: a person of taqwa walks carefully through a world full of fitna
  6. Practical taqwa at work, school, online, and with family, extending Islam beyond the mosque
  7. Signs of true taqwa: quick repentance, leaving sin despite pressure, loving the Quran, and private remembrance
  8. Conclusion: the guidance prayed for in every rak'ah requires taqwa, which is the path to Jannah
Try this week
Lower your gaze out of taqwa
Wake up for Fajr to bless your day
Leave a sin you enjoy for the sake of Allah
Give charity sincerely for Allah
Make time to pray at work and school even when others mock you
Maintain taqwa when alone on social media and avoid tempting content
Treat family and others with kindness as part of taqwa
Begin each day with the intention to avoid sin and please Allah
Repent immediately when you sin instead of delaying

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today the khateeb, Essam Dobal, reminded us that this life is like a journey none of us have taken before, and Allah has given us the Qur'an as the best GPS to reach Jannah. He explained that taqwa, being aware that Allah sees us, leaving what He forbade even when it's hard, and choosing His pleasure over people's approval, is the key that unlocks guidance. When we live with taqwa, Allah gives us Furqan, a clear heart that helps us tell right from wrong, and He opens doors of provision we never expected. The talk especially encouraged young people to have taqwa at school, at work, online, and with family, because Islam is not just inside the masjid, it shapes every part of life. Let us go home asking how we can show Allah we deserve the guidance we ask for in every salah.

  1. What's one thing you can do this week because Allah is watching, even when no one else is?
  2. If a friend invites you to something that isn't good for your soul, how can taqwa help you say no?
  3. Where do you find it hardest to remember Allah, at school, online, or with friends, and what can help?
