Hard seasons call us to renew faith

“The only thing that does not change is Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”

The khateeb, at 7:47

In one sentence

Because Allah alone does not change, believers should treat every changing season as a call to renew faith, act responsibly, and respond to hardship with what is better rather than passively surrendering to fate.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Creation's changing signs point to Allah, the unchanging Creator.
  2. Daily changes, nature, life, death, and seasons offer opportunities to reconnect with Allah.
  3. Difficult personal seasons may contain unseen replenishment before relief arrives.
  4. Belief in Allah's decree does not justify passivity; believers retain duties and choices.
  5. Responding to hardship and opposition with what is better can transform consequences.
  6. Renewal means worship, learning, good character, service, and support for oppressed communities.

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Allah created a world full of changes, while He Himself does not change. The khutbah invites us to see each new day and every season, including hard seasons, as signs that can bring us back to Allah. A difficult period may be like winter, with unseen growth happening beneath the surface, but trusting Allah's decree does not mean giving up. We still choose how to pray, learn, treat people, serve our communities, and support those facing oppression. This week, let us renew our intention to do good for Allah's sake and respond to challenges with what is better.

  1. What is one change in nature that makes you think about Allah?
  2. When life feels like winter, what small good deed can you keep doing?
  3. How could our family respond with something better when someone is hurting?
