Trust Allah when life makes no sense

“My submission to Allah is not broken.”

The khateeb, at 56:04

In one sentence

Because life is a temporary stop and Allah’s wisdom exceeds our understanding, believers should purify their souls, trust Allah rather than obsess over “why,” and respond to hardship with patient, faithful action.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that this life is a short stop on the way to the Hereafter. Allah has given us blessings and abilities, and we should use them to please Him. Tazkiyah means cleaning our inner life from harmful habits and then growing in goodness, like a tree that must be pruned before it bears fruit. When painful things happen, we may not understand why, but we can remember who Allah is and ask what faithful action is needed. That action may include patience, prayer, dua, charity, fasting, helping others, or raising awareness while keeping our submission to Allah intact.

  1. What is one “weed” in your routine that you would like to remove?
  2. When something difficult happens, what can help you move from asking “why” to asking “what should I do?”
  3. Which action could our family take this week to help people who are suffering?
