Serve God instead of chasing power
“God knows your joy and your pain.”
Muslims should center their mission on worship, virtue, gratitude, patience, and sharing God's message rather than competing in wealth, tyranny, or instruments of death.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- The Prophet's mission was to proclaim God's message and embody submission, virtue, and justice.
- Badr, Hudaybiyyah, and the early Muslims illustrate patience, consultation, freedom of faith, and dignified resistance.
- The hadith about knowing Allah in ease teaches reliance on God and patience during adversity.
- The story of Khabbab emphasizes steadfastness under persecution rather than impatience.
- Muslims should offer society worship, gratitude, moral clarity, and a lived example of faith.
In the khateeb's words
“Islam is not a death cult Muslims are not a death cult”
“People remember How you make Them feel Not what You said To them”
“We're here to remind people that God is real. That God is one. God knows your joy and your pain.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that the Prophet Muhammad came to share Allah’s message and show people how to live it. Our worship and good character help us fulfill that purpose, and people learn about our faith through how we treat them. He encouraged us to build our relationship with Allah when life is easy so we can draw on that relationship during hardship. Through the story of Khabab, he emphasized patience without dismissing the need to resist oppression. He also reminded us to make our lives expressions of gratitude through prayer, charity, remembrance of Allah, and everyday choices.
- What is one kind action that could help someone understand what our faith teaches?
- What could help you remember Allah on an ordinary, happy day?
- What blessing are you grateful for today, and how could you show that gratitude?
