Sin hardens the heart, remembrance restores it

For the dinner table

The khutbah teaches that the heart shapes our choices, worship, and treatment of other people. Sin and neglecting Allah’s remembrance can make the heart hard, so that right and wrong become confusing and worship loses its sweetness. The heart can be softened by remembering death and the Hereafter, reading the Quran, strengthening our connection to Allah, choosing good friends, giving charity, and caring for orphans. Prayer should become a place of comfort, especially when life feels difficult.

  1. What is one thing that helps your heart feel closer to Allah?
  2. How can we show mercy to someone who needs help this week?
  3. Who are the friends who encourage you to do what is right?
