For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah focused on Allah’s name Al-Jabbar and its two connected meanings: the Compeller and the mender. The khateeb reminded us that Allah is in charge, and remembering His power should help us stay humble. He also explained that Allah can mend what hurts in our lives, including our hearts and relationships. Healing can include peace and contentment, even when what we lost has not been replaced. We can ask Allah to forgive us, have mercy on us, mend us, guide us, and sustain us, while letting what we learn about His names shape our actions.

  1. What could remembering that Allah is in charge teach us about being humble?
  2. What would you like to ask Allah to help mend in your life or our family?
  3. What might peace in your heart feel like during a hard day?
