Renew your faith through remembrance and obedience
“If you have faith, you have everything.”
Renewing faith through constant remembrance, obedience, repentance, contentment with Allah’s decree, and self-examination restores spiritual life, strength, tranquility, and good character.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Faith gives life and strength, so believers should turn to Allah with every problem.
- Obedience, sincere knowledge of Allah, and constant dhikr bring solace and restrain hatred, jealousy, envy, and harmful speech.
- The speaker illustrates the calming power of dhikr through a personal heart examination and the supplication of Yunus.
- Contentment with Allah’s decree extinguishes regret and comparison, redirecting competition toward the Hereafter.
- At the start of a new year, listeners should examine their relationships and imitate the Prophet’s patience and generosity.
In the khateeb's words
“If you have faith, you have life. If you have faith, you have strength. If you have faith, you have everything. If you lack it, you lack life.”
“Are we obedient to Allah or we are just mentioning it? If we obey Allah, we have nothing to hate.”
“Take a pause in your life. In your relationship with your family. Relationship with your people in the masjid. Relationship with your people in the place.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah called us to renew our lives by renewing our faith and turning to Allah. The khateeb encouraged us to remember Allah throughout the day, obey Him sincerely, and strengthen our iman together at the masjid. He reminded us that knowing Allah should shape our character, including how we speak and treat others. He urged us to be content with Allah’s decree instead of constantly comparing our possessions with other people’s. He also asked us to pause, reflect on our relationships, and return to Allah in repentance as we work to live by His teachings.
- When during your day could you pause to remember Allah?
- What helps you appreciate what you have when you want something someone else has?
- How could we respond more gently when someone in our family asks for something?
