Righteousness secures your family's future
“Being righteous is the best way to secure the future of your wife and your children.”
True success and family security come from pleasing Allah through selflessness, forgiveness, taqwa, and halal conduct, not from following desire, hoarding wealth, or harming others.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Reaffirms selflessness and corrects the previous khutbah's account of a hadith.
- Explains that Jannah requires resisting disliked desires, while Hellfire is surrounded by appealing desires.
- Returns to selflessness as essential for families and communities, using the Sahabah and Aisha's generosity.
- Uses Khalid ibn al-Walid and Umar ibn Abdulaziz to illustrate forgiveness, obedience, and sacrificing status.
- Contrasts Umar ibn Abdulaziz's modest legacy with rulers who amassed wealth, warning that money cannot secure children's futures.
- Applies Quranic guidance that taqwa and righteousness, not haram wealth or harming others, protect a family.
- Prays for Gaza and Sudan and urges Muslims to uphold Islamic values amid oppression.
In the khateeb's words
“What needs to be done for you and I to make it to Jannah are mostly the things that we don't like it.”
“It's not about pleasing you, me, or anyone else. It's about pleasing Allah.”
“Don't take it from the haram. Don't deprive from those who deserve it to keep it for you and your family and your children.”
“Being righteous is the best way to secure the future of your wife and your children.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Allah's pleasure matters more than getting our own way. Jannah often requires patience, forgiveness, generosity, and other choices that our desires resist. Real security for a family does not come from haram wealth or harming other people; it comes from taqwa, righteousness, and trusting Allah. We should care for others, forgive where we can, and keep supporting people suffering in Gaza, Sudan, and elsewhere. The goal is to build a life that pleases Allah, even when its rewards are not immediate.
