The khateeb, at 28:02

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that Allah invites us to return to Him with sincere repentance. We should learn what counts as a major sin, guard ourselves from lying, backbiting, forbidden relationships, drinking, and doubtful choices, and keep our obligatory worship strong. Repentance means truly intending to leave the sin, then making an effort and returning to Allah again if we slip. We can seek trustworthy guidance and work on one weakness at a time. The sermon also encouraged us to value congregational prayer and good manners in the masjid.

  1. What is one habit you could examine this week using what you learn about major sins?
  2. What could you say or do if friends start backbiting about someone?
  3. What would sincere tawbah look like after making the same mistake again?
