Try this week
Pray all five prayers on time wherever you are, without skipping them for convenience.
When you sin, repent and follow the sin with a good deed such as tahajjud, sadaqah, istighfar, or kindness.
Apologize and acknowledge harm done to family, friends, spouses, children, or parents.
Repay wealth taken incorrectly and work to purify one's finances.
Develop self-awareness by noticing how others experience your words and behavior, then correct harmful patterns.
Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“taqwa is measured when you are tested when you are angry somebody says something to you you don't like”
“taqwa doesn't mean being sinless taqwa doesn't mean we don't forget taqwa doesn't mean we don't lose our resolve taqwa doesn't mean perfection”
“the closest of people to me on the day of Qiyamah are those with the best character those who treat people well”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that taqwa means being conscious of Allah wherever we are. The imam shared three practical ways to grow: remember Allah consistently, follow a sin with repentance and good deeds, and treat people with good character. Remembering Allah matters especially when we are angry, hurt, or tempted to do something wrong. We will make mistakes, but we can ask Allah for forgiveness, apologize to anyone we hurt, and work to repair the damage. Our worship should go together with kindness, and listening to how others experience our behavior can help us grow.
- What could help you remember Allah when you start feeling angry?
- If your words hurt someone, what could you do afterward to help put things right?
- What is one way you could show good character to a neighbor or classmate this week?
