Use the new year to leave sin behind
The Hijrah teaches believers to use each new year as an opportunity to leave sinful habits behind, deepen their relationship with Allah, and continually improve their character.

In the khateeb's words
“Don't be saddened, don't be grieved, Allah is with us.”
“A true Muslim is the one who does not harm people with his or her tongue or his or her hands. And a true muhajir is one who migrates away from what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has forbidden upon them.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that belonging to the Prophet’s ummah is a blessing, and learning about his life can deepen our love for him. He reflected on the hijrah, when the Prophet and his companions left familiar surroundings, and on the reassurance that Allah was with them. He encouraged us to use the new Hijri year to reflect on who we are becoming and which habits we need to leave behind. That growth includes prayer, charity, avoiding what displeases Allah, and keeping our words and actions from hurting others. As a family, we can gently help one another improve and share our blessings with people who need support.
- When could remembering that Allah is with us help you through something difficult?
- What is one way you could use your words more kindly this week?
- What blessing in our home makes you want to help someone else, and how could we help together?
