Good deeds protect wealth, family, and children
“Sins can deprive us from rizq, can decrease our rizq, can take the barakah away from our wealth and rizq.”
A believer's righteous deeds and avoidance of sin draw Allah's protective blessings over provision, family, and offspring, while sin brings tangible loss and discord into daily life.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Good deeds bring barakah in wealth and provision, while sins deprive a person of rizq
- Righteousness protects marriages and families from the conflicts and divorces that sin can cause
- Allah safeguards and guides children because of the righteousness of their parents, even across generations
- The example of al-Fudayl ibn Iyad shows how the righteous measured every hardship against their own sins
- Closing supplication and communal announcements about prayer, charity, hospitality, and a deceased brother
In the khateeb's words
“sins can deprive us from rizq can decrease our rizq can take the barakah away from our wealth and rizq”
“a husband might struggle with his wife who is driving him nuts just because of his sins”
“when i commit a sin i see the impact the negative impact of that sin in the way my donkey behaves”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that good deeds and staying close to Allah can bring barakah to our wealth, protect our families, and guide our children. It teaches that sins can remove blessing and sometimes contribute to difficulties in marriage and family life, so we should respond with sincere repentance and better actions. The story of the two orphans shows that a righteous parent or ancestor may become a source of protection and mercy for descendants. Every act of good benefits us, while wrongdoing ultimately harms us. We should keep doing khayr, giving charity, caring for our families, and asking Allah to protect our rizq and children.
- What does barakah in our family’s food, money, or time look like?
- What good deed could we do today to help our family?
- How can our good choices help people in our family, even years from now?
