Trust Allah through blessings and losses
“When you accept the qada and qadar of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, you get rewarded.”
Belief in qada and qadar means trusting Allah's decree while using our free will responsibly and responding to blessings and losses with worship, patience, gratitude, and dua.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Allah sees and knows every action and every hidden thing in creation.
- The speaker explains qada and qadar, distinguishing divine decree from human choice in belief.
- Stories of a drowned son, Yusuf, and Iblis illustrate how trials, envy, and hardship test faith.
- Worldly success and loss are temporary tests, while final reward belongs to those who trust Allah.
- Listeners are urged to accept decree without suppressing grief, avoid envy, and seek reward through dua.
- The khutbah closes with religious concessions, supplications, prayer, and community announcements.
In the khateeb's words
“we are talking about accepting the Qadar and Qadar of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala with a smart mind with a peaceful heart”
“when you accept the qada and qadar of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala you get rewarded”
For the dinner table
Allah knows everything in creation, but He gives us a real choice about whether to believe and worship. The khutbah teaches that both blessings and hardships can be tests, so success is not simply getting what we want. We can feel grief and still praise Allah, trust His wisdom, and ask Him to replace what we lost with something better. When someone else receives a blessing, we should pray for barakah instead of becoming envious. In daily life, we should do what we can, use the religious ease Allah provides when we are sick or unable, and keep our hearts turned toward Him.
- What is one blessing you can thank Allah for today, and how can you use it well?
- When something disappointing happens, what words or dua from the khutbah could help you?
- How can we celebrate someone else's blessing without envy?
