Patience & trialsFrom the masjid's own video, Oct 25, 2025.
Patience in hardship begins with faith
“Call on Allah every day after every prayer.”
In one sentence
Patience in calamity grows from humble faith, a good opinion of Allah, persistent dua, and compassionate family support modeled by Nabi Ayyub.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The khutbah calls believers to taqwa, truthful speech, and obedience as the definition of success.
- The story of Nabi Ayyub illustrates prolonged illness, bereavement, poverty, social rejection, and steadfastness.
- Ayyub’s dua demonstrates humility and bringing hardship to Allah without complaining about Allah.
- Believers should view trials optimistically as opportunities for purification, forgiveness, and spiritual elevation.
- Correct iman and dua are presented as remedies for anxiety, grief, fear, and worry.
- Families should respond to suffering with empathy, support, and sensitivity rather than minimizing pain.

For the dinner table
Imam Abdullahi reminded us to be mindful of Allah and to speak fairly and honestly. He shared the story of Prophet Ayub, who endured illness and deep losses with patience while his wife stood beside him. The khutbah encouraged us to remember Allah’s gifts and to keep a good opinion of Him during hardship. Patience does not mean hiding our pain: we can turn to Allah and ask for help, relief, and strength. The imam encouraged regular dua alongside other support, and reminded us to listen kindly to our loved ones without making their pain seem unimportant.
- What could you say to help someone feel heard when they are upset?
- What is something you would like to ask Allah for help with?
- What can we learn from the way Ayub’s wife supported him?
