For the dinner table

Today the khateeb reminded us of a hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him): every child of Adam makes mistakes, and the best of them are the ones who turn back to Allah in repentance. He said we should not call other people names for their sins as if we were better than them, because that is arrogance. We also should not give up hope, because despair is a trick of shaitan. Even the Prophet, whose sins were all forgiven, asked Allah for forgiveness more than 70 times a day, so we should make tawbah a regular part of our own lives. Allah is happier when we repent than a traveler in the desert who finds his lost camel with all his food and water after he had given up hope. Sincere tawbah means turning back to Allah, believing in His mercy, and doing good deeds in place of the bad ones, and we should do it right away instead of waiting until later.

  1. If the Prophet asked Allah for forgiveness more than 70 times a day, when are some times in your day you could say 'astaghfirullah'?
  2. Why do you think Allah is so happy when we say sorry and come back to Him, like the man who found his lost camel?
  3. What's one good deed you could do to make up for a mistake you made this week?
