Faith grows through learning, not blind following

“What do I know about Islam?”

The khateeb, at 21:05

In one sentence

Meaningful faith requires questioning, learning the Qur'an in context, and rejecting blind religious conformity so Muslims can build stronger foundations and draw closer to Allah.

For the dinner table

Today, the khateeb used the story of Fir'aun to warn about the danger of following someone without thinking or asking questions. He encouraged us to learn why we practise Islam and understand the words we say in prayer. He explained that learning from teachers who provide evidence is different from simply accepting religious claims shared online. His practical challenge was to open the Qur'an three times a week and explore the meaning, context, and tafsir of an ayah, surah, or even one word. He reminded us that growth takes time and effort, and prayed for a community where young and old learn from one another.

  1. What is one question about Islam you would like us to explore together?
  2. Which word from salah would you like to learn more about?
  3. How could we make a little time to learn about the Qur'an together this week?
