Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Aug 15, 2026.

Turn from the past and begin anew

“I have to begin something new with the intent of turning away from something in the past.”

The khateeb, at 13:45

In one sentence

New beginnings become blessed when a person sincerely turns from the past, takes consistent practical steps, and trusts Allah with an unseen outcome.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. New beginnings should start with sincere intention, Bismillah, and seeking Allah’s pleasure.
  2. The past does not define a person; repentance and a change of direction make renewal possible.
  3. Starting anew requires letting go of what lies behind, as illustrated by the Prophet’s Hijrah.
  4. Intentions must become physical action through small steps and accountability.
  5. Consistent practice matters more than immediate spiritual feelings or visible results.
  6. Trust Allah with unseen endings and expect barakah in the journey.

In the khateeb's words

“Your past is not always something that defines you. There are things that happen in your past, some of which you take benefit from because they were moments of khair, moments of goodness, moments of remembrance.”

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that a new beginning starts with a sincere intention to please Allah. Our past mistakes do not have to define us: we can repent, turn away from harmful patterns, and move toward a better direction. Faith also requires action, so we should take a first step, use accountability, and keep going even when results or spiritual feelings come slowly. Like the Prophet’s move from Mecca to Medina, some good changes require leaving what is familiar and trusting Allah with what we cannot yet see. When we combine effort, patience, and trust, Allah can place barakah in a journey whose ending we do not know.

  1. What is one good new beginning you would like to make this week?
  2. What can help you keep going when a good habit does not feel rewarding yet?
  3. What is one next step you can take while trusting Allah with the future?
