How taqwa guides us through hardship
“You work hard with your head down fearing the status of Allah, and who cares what the result is because Allah is in charge of it.”
The only way out of life's hardships is to cultivate taqwa, constant awareness and reverence of Allah, while acting obediently, patiently, and trusting Him with the results.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Defines taqwa as fearing Allah's status and living with awareness that He sees us, pursuing ihsan.
- Presents taqwa's benefits: a way out of hardship, provision, ease, forgiveness, and immense reward.
- Clarifies that divine ease means inner peace, patience, and right conduct rather than a trouble-free life.
- Urges listeners to study Quranic verses beginning with calls to belief or taqwa and adopt one command as a personal mission.
- Explains tawakkul: Allah is sufficient, controls outcomes and destiny, while people must work hard and entrust results to Him.
- Concludes with prayer, congregational worship, youth-program announcements, and funeral and community-event notices.
In the khateeb's words
“But when you fear Allah And you're conscious of Allah He teaches you How to deal with things The right way”
“If the individual were to lose everything They lost nothing But if they were to lose Allah They lost everything”
“You work hard with your head down Fearing the status of Allah And who cares what the result is Because Allah is in charge of it”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that taqwa means being mindful of Allah in our everyday choices, including when nobody else is watching. He explained that Allah grants those who are mindful of Him a way out of hardship, provision, ease, forgiveness, and great reward. That ease does not mean a life without problems; it can mean having patience and a peaceful heart while facing them. We should work hard and do our part while trusting Allah with the results. As a practical step, he encouraged us to open the Quran, study one verse, and work on following it in our lives.
- What is one choice you could make differently tomorrow by remembering that Allah sees you?
- When something frustrates you, what could help you respond with patience?
- Which Quran verse could we learn about and practice together this week?
