Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Apr 10, 2026.

Leave worldly distractions and return to Allah

“If your heart is full with dunya, there is no room for Al-Quran.”

The khateeb, at 5:35

In one sentence

Because worldly distractions crowd out the Qur’an and weaken trust in Allah, believers should return to Allah through guidance, worship, repentance, forgiveness, and repaired relationships, confident that this path leads to Jannah.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. The Qur’an is a wake-up call, but worldly distractions can fill the heart and leave no room for revelation.
  2. Attachment to dunya causes procrastination about judgment and prevents preparation for the Hereafter.
  3. Jannah requires a firm decision, sincere repentance, and following Allah’s guidance through worship and good character.
  4. The examples of Ayyub, Yunus, Ibrahim, and Muhammad illustrate complete trust in Allah during hardship.
  5. Believers should reject haram, forgive others, and repair relationships with family, friends, and neighbors.
  6. The khutbah closes with prayers and community announcements about programs, a candidate forum, and youth fundraising.

For the dinner table

The imam reminded us that our hearts can become so busy with everyday distractions that we struggle to take in the Quran. He encouraged us to stop putting off good changes and begin preparing for the hereafter now. Seeking Jannah means following Allah’s guidance through prayer, charity, truthfulness, and good manners. Through stories of the prophets, he encouraged us to trust Allah, turn to Him in difficulty, and sincerely seek His forgiveness. He ended with a practical invitation: care for our relationships, forgive for Allah’s sake, and reach out to someone with an apology.
