Forgetting Allah makes us lose ourselves
“Don't live your life only for this life.”
Forgetting Allah is sustained heedlessness that makes people lose their purpose and themselves, so believers must keep Allah and the Hereafter before them through obedience, repentance, prayer, Qur'an, and consistent good deeds.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Frames Qur'anic taqwa as the path to success and introduces the danger of loss.
- Defines the greatest loss as losing oneself and one's family by forgetting Allah.
- Distinguishes ordinary forgetfulness from heedlessness, persistent sin, and living only for worldly life.
- Explains the consequences of forgetting Allah, including spiritual blindness, self-neglect, punishment, and loss in the Hereafter.
- Calls listeners to measure every action against the Qur'an and the Prophet's guidance while preparing for accountability.
- Closes by urging consistency in good deeds and making supplication for guidance, protection, and the oppressed.
In the khateeb's words
“Today, I'm going to focus on the losers because if you don't know how the losers got lost, then you might fall in this kind of mistakes.”
“But the people who remember Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, they don't forget Allah. The moment they will do the sin, they will repent.”
“Don't live your life only for this life. The purpose of being in this life is to reach your goal.”
“we need to be God conscious. we refer every action we do to the book of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and the guidance of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah warns that forgetting Allah is more than occasionally forgetting something; it means living as though the Hereafter and Allah's commands do not matter. When people keep Allah in mind, they repent after sin, return to prayer, care for their families, and try to keep doing good. The speaker says our real goal is not merely worldly success but returning to Paradise, so we should measure our choices against the Qur'an and the Prophet's guidance. He encourages us to prepare for the day we return to Allah and ask Him for guidance, protection, and mercy.
- What is one moment this week when remembering Allah could change a choice you make?
- What good habit would you like our family to keep doing consistently?
- How can we help one another remember the Hereafter without becoming harsh or judgmental?
