Summer should strengthen faith and character
“As the school year ends, it is a moment of reflection.”
The end of the school year should prompt believers to reflect, hold themselves accountable, use free time for faith and growth, and guide children toward righteous success beyond academics.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The end of the school year is a moment for reflection and self-accountability.
- True success is measured by faith, character, Allah’s pleasure, and the Hereafter, not grades or degrees.
- A strong Muslim combines religious identity, prayer, knowledge, and good character with worldly excellence.
- Youth, health, wealth, free time, and life are blessings that must be used before they disappear.
- Parents should treat children as an amanah by supervising summer time and encouraging prayer, Quran, learning, service, and character.
- School ends, but the school of life continues; true graduation is earning Allah’s pleasure.
In the khateeb's words
“As the school year ends, it is a moment of reflection”
“Busy yourself With what is good Otherwise It will busy you With evil”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that the end of the school year is a chance to pause and reflect on how we have grown as Muslims. Grades and achievements matter, and we also need to care for our hearts, our prayers, and our relationship with the Qur'an. Our health, youth, and free time are gifts from Allah that we can use for good. During summer, we can make time for prayer, learning Qur'an, beneficial activities, and helping our community. Parents have a responsibility to guide their children, and all of us can keep learning throughout life as we seek Allah's pleasure.
- What is one way you have grown in your faith or character this school year?
- What could we do together this summer to make prayer or Qur'an a regular part of our day?
- How could you use some of your free time to help someone?
