The khutbah reminded us not to become proud of our worship or good deeds, because we do not know what Allah has accepted. After praying, giving charity, or completing another act of worship, we should seek Allah’s forgiveness and ask Him to accept it. We should also trust the power of sincere du‘a, even when its results appear years later or in another generation. The khateeb taught that the best deed is often the one needed at that particular moment, such as listening during the khutbah or helping people during hardship. The story of two young children saving their money to provide water in Sudan showed that everyone, including children, can answer a real need with generosity.

  1. What is one du‘a you want to keep making patiently, even if its answer takes time?
  2. When have you seen someone step up to help at exactly the right moment?
  3. What small sacrifice could our family make to help people facing hardship?
