For the dinner table

Muharram is a sacred month, so we should fill it with more good deeds and guard ourselves from wrongdoing. The sermon used the story of Musa, whose staff could be useful or frightening only by Allah’s command, to teach that Allah, not worldly means, ultimately controls outcomes. Ashura reminds us of Allah saving His servants, so even when a situation looks hopeless, we should trust Him and stay faithful to His commands. That trust should show up in ordinary choices, such as praying Jumu’ah instead of continuing business when the call comes. We were also encouraged to remember people in Gaza and other oppressed communities in our prayers.

  1. What is one good deed you could add during Muharram?
  2. When have you trusted Allah even when a situation looked impossible?
  3. What distraction could you set aside to pray more attentively?
