Trust Allah through painful delays
“The delay is not denial; those are two separate things.”
In one sentence
Because Allah is the best of planners, believers should trust His longer timeline, treat delays as opportunities for prayer and growth, and respond to hardship with patience, gratitude, mercy, and repentance.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with reminders to fear Allah, follow the Quran and Sunnah, and pray for Shaykh Nawaz’s recovery.
- Introduces Allah as the best of planners and contrasts divine timing with human schemes and worldly power.
- Uses Yusuf’s suffering, eventual elevation, and forgiveness to show how painful delays can serve a larger plan.
- Reframes delay as an opportunity to return to Allah, recognize subtle blessings, and value prayer itself.
- Uses Umar ibn al-Khattab’s gradual conversion to illustrate transformation unfolding through successive moments.
- Concludes with supplications for repentance, awareness, Gaza, and oppressed people, followed by prayer and announcements.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“the delay is not denial those are two separate things”
“the timeline was different it was everything Allah planned to this point to get him to who he was”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that Allah sees a much bigger timeline than we can see. A painful delay does not necessarily mean that our prayers have been rejected; it may be an opportunity to return to Allah and notice blessings already present. The stories of Yusuf and Umar showed how hardship and small moments of change can lead somewhere unexpected. We were encouraged to choose mercy over revenge and to make dua for people facing oppression, including Gaza.
- What is one blessing you notice while waiting for something?
- How can we make a difficult delay a chance to turn to Allah?
- Which moment in Yusuf’s or Umar’s story stood out to you, and why?
