Build environments that protect the heart
“It's time for us to invest in good environments.”
The khutbah argues that heart disease grows when Muslims normalize harmful environments, delay change, and ignore guidance, so individuals, parents, and communities must actively build faith-supporting environments, especially for youth, before it is too late.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Ramadan is a time to heal the heart, but hidden spiritual diseases can go unnoticed.
- Surah al-Kahf and Surah al-Hadid warn about people who think they are doing good while becoming hypocritical and spiritually heedless.
- Heart disease progresses through harmful environments, procrastination, doubt, and normalization of sin.
- Believers must actively choose good environments, act before death, and never redefine wrong as acceptable.
- Parents and communities must support youth with answers, safe activities, Islamic education, and positive friendships.
- The khutbah closes with prayer and an appeal to support Ansar Academy and trustworthy youth education.
In the khateeb's words
“Allah is not asking perfection. But Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is asking us to never, ever tell something that is wrong, correct.”
“It's time for us to invest in good environments. It's time for us to put our money into education.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Ramadan is a time to care for our hearts and draw closer to Allah. He warned that unhealthy environments can make wrong actions seem ordinary, leading us to delay change and drift away from reminders of Allah. He encouraged us to act on what we know now instead of waiting for another stage of life. We do not have to pretend we are perfect: we can admit our weaknesses, recognize what is right, and work on it together. He also urged adults to listen to young people, answer their questions, and support schools and gatherings where they can learn, have friends, and enjoy themselves safely.
- What kind of gathering helps you have fun while remembering what matters to you as a Muslim?
- What helps you feel listened to when you ask a difficult question about faith?
