Let the Quran guide your whole life
“The Word of God must dominate our whole lives.”
A true believer submits desires, conduct, and the whole of life to the Quran and God's guidance, trusting Him and loving lawful good for others.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Defines the mujaddid and introduces the goal of becoming true believers.
- Uses prophetic teaching to say desires and intentions must follow the Quran.
- Warns against rationalizing wrongdoing and distinguishes a Muslim from a mukmin.
- Contrasts worldly motives for migration with migration undertaken for God.
- Presents the prophets as builders and the Quran as preserved divine revelation.
- Explains Islam as submission, peace, brotherhood, and a complete way of life.
- Concludes with Quranic completion of religion, prayers, condolences, and community announcements.
In the khateeb's words
“The Word of God must dominate our whole lives. The whole life dear brothers and sisters, that's the only way.”
“Don't rationalize. We understand that by rationalizing. You try to make something that really you know in your heart, you know in your soul, you know in your mind is wrong, but you rationalize it.”
“Islam is not a religion made by man. Islam is a religion revealed by God.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb encouraged us to keep growing as believers by trusting Allah and letting the Quran guide our whole lives. He reminded us to bring our desires and choices into agreement with that guidance, rather than making excuses for what we know is wrong. He also taught that we should want for others the good we want for ourselves. Through the example of migration from Mecca to Medina, he explained that our intentions matter: we should seek to please Allah in what we do. As a family, we can help one another practice Islam throughout the day, in both our worship and our everyday choices.
- What is one choice tomorrow where you could let Quranic guidance help you?
- What good thing would you want for another child that you also want for yourself?
- How could you remind yourself to please Allah before helping someone?
