Prepare for Ramadan through lasting change
“I am planning to change my life totally from A to Z.”
Muslims should learn Allah’s wisdom and planning from the Quran, Sunnah, and the Prophet’s life, then prepare for Ramadan by transforming their worship, character, leadership, and service to others.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Urges listeners to use Rajab and Sha'ban for learning and intentional preparation before Ramadan.
- Explores the change of qibla, Isra and Mi'raj, and Hijrah as lessons in divine timing and planning.
- Connects salah, fasting, and zakat with spiritual closeness, taqwa, empathy, and care for people in need.
- Encourages learning Islamic guidance before seeking worldly experts for business, education, and leadership decisions.
- Uses the Battle of Badr and current communal hardships to emphasize sincere dua, preparation, solidarity, and leadership.
- Closes by urging daily Quran and Seerah study, teaching children, Ramadan worship, and comprehensive personal change.
In the khateeb's words
“what we learn from Shaaban in order to prepare us for the month of Ramadan and in order to learn something from Islam”
“are we learning from muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam how to plant our life as well”
“islam wallahi even one ayah a day and have a chapter of the seerah or the sunnah of muhammad islam your life will be totally different”
“come here for qiyamu al-layl for salatu tarawiyyah for some listen to learn have that intention i am planning to change my life totally from a to z”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Shaaban is a time to learn and prepare for Ramadan, not merely wait for it to arrive. He taught that the Prophet’s life shows wisdom in patience, timing, prayer, sacrifice, and leadership. Salah should bring us close to Allah, fasting should grow our taqwa and compassion, and zakat should help people who are struggling. He encouraged every person to study at least one Quran verse and part of the Seerah or Sunnah each day. Ramadan can become a turning point when we worship sincerely, teach our children, and intentionally improve our whole lives.
- What is one lesson from the Prophet’s life that could help us plan better?
- How can fasting make us more aware of people who are struggling?
- What is one change we would like to make during Ramadan?
