Patient struggle brings us closer to Allah
“Give up something for Allah and Allah will give you something better.”
The khutbah argues that meaningful growth requires patient struggle, giving up what distances us from Allah, and taking daily steps toward the Prophet Muhammad’s example.
The khutbah in 4 steps
- The speaker applies this lesson to Quran memorization, employment, home responsibilities, and parenting.
- Listeners are urged to identify what pulls them away from Allah and surrender it for something better.
- Stories of the Companions illustrate love for Rasulullah through imitation, remembrance, and longing for closeness.
- The khutbah closes by encouraging daily salawat and gradual spiritual improvement.
In the khateeb's words
“there will always be hardships of Mecca before the ease of Medina comes there may be years and years of hardship but the constant should be turning to Allah”
“give up something for Allah and Allah will give you something better”
“the closest to me on the day of judgment are those that do the most salawat”
For the dinner table
The khateeb taught that every journey toward something better can include a difficult “Mecca” before we reach an easier “Medina.” He connected this struggle to worship, work, home life, and raising children, encouraging patience instead of giving up. He asked listeners to notice what is pulling them away from Allah and to leave it for something better. He also encouraged us to love the Prophet Muhammad by following his example and sending salawat throughout the day. The goal is to keep taking small steps toward Allah and becoming better through the process.
- What is one difficult thing that became better because you kept working at it?
- What small action could help you remember and follow the Prophet this week?
- What can pull a person away from Allah, and how can they return?
