Trust Allah when faith requires sacrifice
“If I give that up for Allah, Allah will replace what I gave up with something even better.”
A life and family rooted in faith begins by putting Allah and His Messenger first, safeguarding His commands, seeking His help before relying on people, and sacrificing competing desires with trust in His better replacement.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Reminds worshippers to put phones aside, listen attentively, and treat Jumu'ah as weekly spiritual renewal.
- Connects earlier sermons on family rights to raising parents and children who prioritize Allah and His Messenger.
- Explains the Ibn Abbas hadith: safeguard Allah's commands, ask Him first, and trust His decree over benefit and harm.
- Argues that loving Allah requires following the Prophet and valuing faith above family, wealth, business, and comfort.
- Uses Suhaib al-Rumi and Sulayman as examples of sacrifice, repentance, and Allah's greater replacement.
- Closes by urging humility, mutual reminders, self-correction, and attentiveness during the khutbah.
In the khateeb's words
“Notifications can wait. Allah is trying to notify us. And that's one of the wisdoms behind Friday prayer as a lecture.”
“If you ask for anything, ask Allah. Does that mean we do not ask our boss for a raise? Absolutely not.”
“So I ask Allah Azza wa Jal for help before I ask anyone else.”
“If I give that up for Allah, Allah will replace what I gave up with something even better.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah taught that Jumu'ah is a weekly chance to put our phones aside, remember Allah, and renew our faith. It connected strong families and communities to parents and children who put Allah and His Messenger first. We were encouraged to safeguard Allah's commands, ask Him for help before turning to people, and trust that He controls benefit and harm. Giving up haram or distracting comforts for Allah may feel costly, but Allah can replace them with something better, while the lasting reward is in the Hereafter. Finally, we should remind one another kindly, look at our own faults first, and help our children grow in faith.
- What helps you listen better during Jumu'ah?
- What is one good habit you would like to protect this week?
- How can our family remind each other kindly and fix ourselves first?
