Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Oct 10, 2026.

Taqwa should guide every part of life

“You leave what displeases Allah, you do what Allah loves, you're grateful to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for everything He has given you.”

The khateeb, at 11:21

In one sentence

Because worldly life is a deceptive, unfamiliar test, believers should cultivate taqwa, constant awareness, respect, and obedience to Allah, through every circumstance rather than turning to faith only in hardship.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Uses unfamiliar travel and the Dajjal’s deceptive garden and fire to frame worldly life as a dangerous first-time journey.
  2. Presents the Qur’an as divine guidance and explains taqwa as awareness of Allah in every setting.
  3. Shows taqwa through honesty, worship, work, family, income, and decisions outside the mosque.
  4. Describes discernment, unexpected openings, and provision as benefits of taqwa.
  5. Compares hardship and ease to seasons, urging gratitude, generosity, service, and responsible use of blessings.
  6. Warns against treating prayer, dua, and Allah as an emergency button, urging consistent worship through Qur’an and daily prayers.

For the dinner table

Life is a first-time journey, and Allah gives us guidance so we do not have to navigate it alone. The khutbah explained taqwa as staying aware of Allah in our private lives, relationships, work, and choices. Both blessings and hardships are tests, so we should respond to blessings with gratitude and service and to hardship with patience and continued faith. Prayer, dua, and the Qur’an should be part of our daily relationship with Allah, not only something we turn to during emergencies. Our lasting treasures are our iman and deeds.

  1. Where can we practice taqwa when nobody else is watching?
  2. How can we use one blessing we have to help someone else?
  3. What worship habit can help us remember Allah every day?
