Faith means trusting Allah and taking action
“Tie your camel and trust in Allah.”
Islamic belief should become sincere, doubt-free commitment expressed through trust in Allah, practical action during life’s trials, preparation for the afterlife, and generosity with one’s wealth and effort.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Recites and explains Surah al-A‘la and Surah al-Kafirun, introducing creation, potential, guidance, and distinct worship.
- Reviews foundational Islamic beliefs, including Allah, angels, revealed books, messengers, qadr, and resurrection.
- Explains qadr as Allah’s foreknowledge and the potential for benefit and harm, not compulsion or passivity.
- Frames life as a test and urges listeners to seek refuge from harm while taking practical precautions and trusting Allah.
- Connects the pre-earthly covenant, death, judgment, and the need to build one’s future through present choices.
- Defines true believers as those who do not doubt and strive with their wealth and lives in Allah’s cause.
- Uses Badr and mutual encouragement among believers to emphasize conviction, commitment, and spiritual solidarity.
In the khateeb's words
“Life is a trial. We're here, we're here, but we're not in paradise. This life is not paradise.”
“the Prophet told him, tie your camel and trust in Allah. Tie your camel and trust in Allah.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah explored belief in Allah, His messengers and books, the angels, the Hereafter, and qadr. It reminded us that everything Allah creates has a purpose and that life is a test containing both benefit and harm. We should take practical steps to protect ourselves and do what is right, while trusting Allah with the outcome. Real belief should be more than a label or appearance; it should show up in generosity, courage, service, and perseverance. The goal is to live today in a way that prepares us for the lasting life after death.
- What is one way you can “tie your camel” this week before asking Allah for help?
- When have you seen something difficult teach you or help you grow?
- What actions show that someone’s faith is real, beyond what they wear or say?
