For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that becoming Muslim is a covenant with Allah: we try to obey His commands and stay away from what He forbids. Worldly wealth, status, health, and life all pass away, while what Allah gives, especially the reward of patience and Paradise, endures. He urged us to look beyond appearance and identity by cleaning the heart of jealousy, envy, pride, and insincerity. Good deeds should be done for Allah, without showing off or reminding people of our favors, and we should stay humble by remembering that every blessing comes from Him. Finally, he asked us to pray with an attentive, present heart.

  1. What is one worldly distraction that can make us forget our covenant with Allah?
  2. How can we show humility when Allah gives us success or respect?
  3. What can help us focus our hearts during prayer?
