Trust Allah while using wise means
“The means we have to use in our hands, but Allah has to remain supreme in our hearts.”
Believers facing oppression should keep Allah supreme in their hearts, combine tawakkul with wise means, preserve worship when necessary, and pray for relief and guidance for oppressors.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Introduces Surah Yunus 10:83-87 as guidance for a vulnerable minority under Fir'aun.
- Explains that a small group of young believers followed Musa despite fear and entrenched power resisting change.
- Teaches tawakkul: trust Allah inwardly while still using strategy and practical means.
- Unpacks the dua asking not to become a fitna for oppressors and asking Allah for merciful deliverance.
- Connects this ethic to Habib Najjar and the Prophet's response at Ta'if.
- Presents safe homes and continued salah as strategies for preserving faith under severe restrictions.
- Closes with hope, Allah's companionship for the patient, and the good ending of taqwa.
In the khateeb's words
“Rather, he is calling upon them that if you profess to be a mu'min and a Muslim, then you need to rely on Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
“The means we have to use in our hands, but Allah has to remain supreme in our hearts.”
“And if they wake up, then subhanallah, if they make tawbah and they come back to you, then no one could be happier than us.”
“let each home become a fortress to protect and preserve the deen within yourselves within your family within your loved ones”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah teaches that faith is tested most clearly when people feel afraid or powerless. The believers with Musa trusted Allah, but they were also told to use wise means and protect their worship. Their dua asked both for rescue and for the oppressors to wake up to the truth. We can memorize that dua, keep salah central, and build homes that nurture faith when circumstances are hard. The sermon ends with hope that patience and taqwa lead to Allah’s companionship and a good ending.
- What does trusting Allah look like when we are also responsible for planning and acting?
- How could our home become a place that protects and strengthens our faith?
- Why might a believer ask for an oppressor’s guidance while also asking Allah for relief?
