Ramadan should lead to lasting worship
“If you do something good but you have bad intentions Allah will not accept from you.”
Ramadan should cultivate taqwa, sincere worship, Quranic connection, and focus on the Hereafter so believers continue growing spiritually after the month ends.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Challenges treating Ramadan as festivities followed by spiritual decline
- Explains fasting and worship as means of developing taqwa
- Frames worldly life as temporary and the Hereafter as the true objective
- Defines sincere intention, truthfulness, and avoiding showing off
- Calls for consistent worship and continued growth after Ramadan
- Announces the center's Taraweeh, youth, family, and Ramadan programs
In the khateeb's words
“That's not the purpose of Ramadan. You go up and then you go down. And then the year comes in and then you go up and you go down.”
“This is the objective is to connect you with the book of Allah Jalla wa'ala, purify you, elevate you, implement the ordains of Allah Jalla wa'ala, avoid this prohibition.”
“Learning sincerity this is very important in Ramadan learning how to do things purely strictly for the sake of Allah to please Allah and be truthful.”
“Let your outside be the same as your inside. Actually your inside should be better than your outside because that what counts if you do something good but you have bad intentions Allah will not accept from you.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Ramadan should help us grow in ways that last after the month ends. Fasting, prayer, and connecting with the Qur’an should shape our choices and deepen our taqwa, which he described as a shield from the consequences of wrongdoing. He encouraged us to act sincerely for Allah and let our actions reflect what we truly believe inside. He also reminded us that following Allah’s guidance carries a responsibility to spread goodness and uphold justice. By keeping the Hereafter in mind and continuing small, consistent acts without overburdening ourselves, we can leave Ramadan better than we entered it.
- What small good habit would you like our family to keep after Ramadan?
- What is a kind thing you could do sincerely for Allah even if nobody noticed?
- How could something you learn from the Qur’an help you handle a disagreement?
