For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah encouraged us to turn to the Quran and the life of the Prophet to help us face grief over suffering in the world. The khateeb described the Prophet’s compassion, his prayers for his companions, and the hope he gave them during hardship. He reminded us to be patient, trust Allah, and respond to hurtful treatment with dignity. He also warned that scrolling quickly past suffering can make us less sensitive to other people’s pain. As a family, we can reflect on our character, make dua, and consider how our efforts and giving can support others.

  1. How could you offer hope to someone who is having a difficult day?
  2. What could help us remember and care about people whose suffering we see on a screen?
  3. What is one way our family could improve our character or help others this week?
