Keep Allah close through every obstacle

“When you worship the means you remove Allah from the equation altogether.”

The khateeb, at 17:11

In one sentence

When believers face obstacles, enemies, and doubters, they must keep Allah close, trust His deliverance, avoid worshipping worldly means, and submit to His definition of success rather than their own.

The khutbah in 8 steps

  3. Story of Nuh: building the ark despite ridicule, and submitting to Allah's plan
  4. Story of Ibrahim: thrown into the fire for monotheism, protected by Allah's command
  5. Story of Hussain: martyrdom at Karbala as a different form of divine success
  6. Application to modern obstacles, health, finances, family, and social pressure to abandon practice
  7. Three lessons: redefine success by Allah's framework, do not worship the means, and submit to the outcome
  8. Closing exhortation to keep Allah close and closing supplication

Redefine success by Allah's framework, including the possibility of martyrdom as divine honor

For the dinner table

The khutbah connected the stories of Musa, Nuh, Ibrahim, and Hussain, each of whom faced obstacles, enemies, and doubters. They remained close to Allah and fulfilled their responsibilities even when they could not see how events would unfold. The khateeb reminded us that Allah’s definition of success may be different from the success people measure through wealth, comfort, or visible victory. We should use the practical means available to us without treating those means as the true source of provision or safety. When hardship comes, our deepest concern should be keeping Allah in our lives, trusting His wisdom, and submitting to the outcome He chooses.

  1. What is one obstacle in your life that could become a reason to grow closer to Allah?
  2. How can you work hard for something while still remembering that the result comes from Allah?
  3. What kind of success matters to Allah even if other people do not recognize it?
