Let taqwa guide every daily choice
“The results are in the hands of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
Taqwa, or consciousness of Allah, should shape gratitude, private choices, worship, relationships, and the influences we choose because life is temporary and we will return to Allah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Questions material striving and defines taqwa through contentment, gratitude, and recognizing Allah’s blessings.
- Explains that trials could be worse, while effort and dua acknowledge dependence on Allah.
- Shows how taqwa guides private conduct, prayer, obedience, and standing for right beyond ritual obligations.
- Connects taqwa with accountability, remembering death, and avoiding forgetfulness of Allah and oneself.
- Urges listeners, especially youth, to choose friends, media, and environments that reinforce faith and good character.
- Concludes by emphasizing the temporary dunya, righteous companionship, prophetic example, and prayers for guidance and oppressed Muslims.
In the khateeb's words
“And one of the things that you have to accept With every single trial and tribulation that comes in your life Is to understand that it could have been worse”
“Yes, you can work towards a goal Yes, you can put in all the effort And you should put in all the effort But the results are in the hands of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that taqwa means being conscious of Allah in our everyday choices, even when nobody else is watching. He encouraged us to appreciate Allah’s blessings and be content with what we have instead of always chasing more. We should work hard toward our goals, remember that the results are in Allah’s hands, and make dua because we need Him. Our friendships and the things we watch and read can shape our character, so we should choose influences that help us remember Allah and do what is right. Since our time in this world is limited, we can use today to speak upright words, treat others well, and grow closer to Allah.
- What is one blessing you enjoyed today that you sometimes forget to notice?
- How could you help a friend make time for prayer when you are out together?
- What is something you watch or read that helps you become a better person, and how?
