Allah's presence gives believers peace and strength

In one sentence

Allah's being "with us" means both His watchful presence and His protective support, and a believer's peace and perseverance depend on living every moment with that awareness.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Bani Israel's victory over Pharaoh and their subsequent spiritual failure show that divine signs alone do not secure the heart.
  2. Allah's all-encompassing knowledge, down to an atom's weight and every secret counsel, means believers are never outside His sight.
  3. The ma'iyyah of Allah has two dimensions: His watchful witnessing and His protective support.
  4. The station of ihsan is to act in every moment conscious that Allah is watching, which is the highest level of faith after prophethood.
  5. Prophetic examples, Musa at the sea, Talut's army, the small band of believers, Hajar in the desert, and Yunus in the storm, illustrate that trust in Allah overcomes despair and danger.
  6. Believers must remember Allah in weakness and fear, purify their souls, refuse false protectors, and ask Allah never to leave them to themselves.
Try this week
Remember Allah with your tongue and heart, especially when you are weak, scared, or feel like a stranger.
Never give up on yourself or your children; trust that Allah can revive a dead heart.
Work on purifying your soul and do not let your nafs drag you toward disobedience.
Ask Allah with the Prophet's words: "Oh Allah, fix all my matters and do not let me alone with your powers and strength."
Do not rely on protectors other than Allah.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that Allah is always with us: He knows what we do and can protect and support us. This awareness is a high level of iman, because it helps us choose what is right even when nobody else sees us. When we feel weak, afraid, lonely, or discouraged, we should remember Allah, make du'a, and keep working on our hearts and nafs. We should never give up on ourselves or our children, because Allah can bring life and goodness back to hearts. The dunya is temporary, but Allah has promised lasting success and Jannah in the Hereafter.

  1. When do you find it easiest to remember that Allah is with you?
  2. What helps you keep going when something feels scary or difficult?
  3. How can our family help one another become better Muslims?
