Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Jul 11, 2026.

Repentance is Allah's open mercy

Al-Ittehad · Furhan

“Knowledge without action, as the scholar says, is a proof against us, not for us.”

The khateeb, at 25:47

In one sentence

Sincere repentance (tawbah) is Allah's ever-open mercy that wipes a believer's sins away, so Muslims must abandon despair, return to Him, and make tawbah a daily practice.

The khutbah in 9 steps

  1. Introduction: every person carries the weight of regret from sins, words, and missed good deeds
  2. Taubah as Allah's gift: its meaning as returning to Allah and the open door of mercy
  3. Human fallibility: hadiths showing all of Adam's children sin and the best are those who repent
  4. The straight path and deviations: hadith of the line and branching paths from Surah Al-An'am
  5. Allah loves those who repent: Surah Al-Baqarah 2:222 and tawbah as ongoing purification, not a single grand gesture
  6. Rejecting despair: Hadith Qudsi on forgiveness for sins as vast as the earth as long as shirk is avoided
  7. Conditions of accepted tawbah: remorse, stopping the sin, firm intention not to return, and restitution of others' rights
  8. Good deeds erase bad deeds: practical replacements for sins of time, prayer, speech, and wealth
  9. Closing call: never despair of Allah's mercy, build daily istighfar, pair bad deeds with good deeds, and forgive yourself
Try this week
Say astaghfirullah 20 times after every salah and gradually build toward 100 times daily
Pair every bad deed with a good deed: replace harmful social media with Quran or a lecture, make up missed prayers with extra prayers, apologize after harsh words and add kind words, give charity after stinginess
When sins involve others' rights, seek their pardon and make restitution
After sincere tawbah, forgive yourself and move forward without clinging to guilt
Be deliberate about speech and what you share, because harmful words multiply sins and beneficial words multiply rewards

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that every person carries regrets, but Islam never leaves us trapped in guilt or despair. Tawbah means returning to Allah, and Allah’s door remains open no matter how long we have been away or how serious our sins feel. Sincere repentance includes remorse, leaving the sin, intending not to return, and repairing harm done to others. We can follow bad deeds with good ones and build daily habits such as istighfar, prayer, charity, apologies, and beneficial speech. After genuine tawbah, we should move forward with hope because Allah forgives and loves those who repeatedly return to Him.
