Trust Allah through hardship
“We must have a good thought with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
Closeness to Allah comes through accepting His will, acting to please Him, thinking well of Him, and trusting Him through hardship.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Human friendships can help but cannot fulfill our deepest needs; only Allah provides completeness.
- Recognize that all events occur by Allah’s will, illustrated through Badr, hardship, and rain.
- Make pleasing Allah the intention behind work, family responsibilities, volunteering, and ordinary chores.
- Think well of Allah during suffering, following Ya‘qub’s example of grief joined with hope.
- Trust Allah, strive for closeness to Him, and remain hopeful for mercy and relief, including for Gaza.
In the khateeb's words
“the human being is there because they can help you, but they cannot fulfill you. They cannot complete you in any matter of life.”
“then everything we do, will be considered a form of worship.”
“we must have a good thought with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
“No matter how many sins you have done in this world, it doesn't matter. Allah's mercy encompasses everything.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah begins by acknowledging that friends can help us but cannot fill every inner need; lasting completeness comes from Allah. It teaches four habits: accept that events occur by Allah’s will, make ordinary duties an effort to please Him, think well of Allah during hardship, and trust Him. The story of Ya‘qub shows that grief can be brought to Allah while hope remains alive, and the speaker extends that hope to relief for Gaza and Palestine. The closing message is that every person, regardless of past sins, can move closer to Allah by making the effort.
- What ordinary task could become worship if you changed your intention?
- How can we stay hopeful in Allah when something painful happens?
- What small effort could help you become closer to Allah this week?
