True victory means guarding your taqwa
“At the end, success is with those that are God conscious.”
True victory is not measured by land, power, wealth, or authority but by preserving taqwa, God-consciousness, and resisting the ego in every role.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- The khutbah opens with the Qur’anic confrontation between Musa and Fir'aun, including oppression of Bani Isra'il.
- Musa tells his people to seek Allah’s help, persevere, and remember that the land belongs to Allah.
- The speaker explains that power and victory are tests requiring preparation before authority arrives.
- Using Fir'aun and the warning against extreme selfishness, he identifies ego as a danger within ordinary roles.
- He closes by defining success as taqwa and asking Allah to make the congregation among the muttaqeen.
In the khateeb's words
“at the end success is with those that are God conscious”
“all of us have a part of Fir'aun within ourselves which is his ego”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reflected on Musa’s guidance to Bani Isra’il during their struggle against Fir'aun: seek Allah’s help, remain patient, and remember that the earth belongs to Allah. True success is not measured by land, money, strength, or authority, but by taqwa, living with awareness of Allah. Worship should not become a bargain in which we expect Allah to give us every worldly outcome we want. If Allah grants us wealth or power, that gift becomes a test of how we treat other people. Each of us must also guard against the selfishness and ego represented by Fir'aun, even within our homes, workplaces, and communities. In every part of life, we can pause and ask whether Allah is pleased with the way we are acting.
- What does success look like when we measure it by taqwa instead of money or popularity?
- What is one way you can use responsibility or influence to help someone else?
- When does your ego make it difficult to admit a mistake or treat someone kindly?
