For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that lasting change starts inside us: we should identify the excuses and obstacles we have placed in our own way and ask Allah for help removing them. When life is hard, we should not stare only at the hardship; we should look for the ease and blessings that come with it and keep a good opinion of Allah. Our families and wealth are tests, and children are a trust for which parents will be accountable. The mosque should welcome children, but parents must teach them that it is Allah’s house and that prayer time calls for calm and respect. We can carry these lessons into the week by choosing one obstacle to remove, one blessing to notice, and one way to guide our children.

  1. What is one small obstacle you can remove this week?
  2. What blessing can you notice when something difficult happens?
  3. How can we show respect for Allah’s house?
