Taqwa is the foundation of true success
“There is no wisdom like planning and preparing.”
Taqwa, mindful obedience to Allah, is the foundation of success in this life and the hereafter, cultivated through worship, knowledge, self-discipline, truthfulness, humility, and preparation.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces a narration containing wisdom about worship, self-accountability, reflection, lawful living, and guarding the tongue.
- Defines taqwa as living with awareness that Allah sees and records everything.
- Presents further counsel: recite Quran, remember Allah, control laughter and ego, sit with the underprivileged, recognize blessings, speak truth, and avoid hypocrisy.
- Emphasizes planning, avoiding prohibitions, and cultivating excellent manners.
- Urges Muslims to seek religious knowledge, ask scholars, and prepare for the hereafter because earthly life is temporary.
- Explains Quranic benefits of taqwa, including success, mercy, provision, ease, forgiveness, accepted deeds, and salvation, then closes with prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“I command you piety. Taqwa. To be mindful of Allah. As it is the core of everything. The engine of everything. The way of success, insha'Allah.”
“Abiy Zar, there is no wisdom like planning and preparing. No wisdom more than planning and preparing. And there is no state of piety more than staying away from what Allah prohibited.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah centers on taqwa, which means living with awareness that Allah sees us and wants us to choose what is right. It teaches us to worship, read Quran, remember Allah, examine ourselves, speak truthfully, and avoid what Allah has prohibited. We are also encouraged to sit with people who are struggling, notice our own blessings, ask knowledgeable people when we do not know, and prepare for the hereafter. The speaker reminds us that taqwa brings hope through success, mercy, ease, forgiveness, provision, and closeness to Allah.
- What is one moment this week when remembering that Allah sees us could guide your choice?
- What blessing do you notice more clearly when you stop comparing yourself with others?
- Who could we learn from or help this week?
